The Rich Heritage of Bacarra
Bacarra is one of the oldest and most historic towns in Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Founded by the Augustinian friars in 1593, it was formally established as a parish and a town in 1778. The town is most famous for its 'Dignified Leaning Bell Tower,' which was constructed in the 1830s. The tower, originally standing at 50 meters, suffered significant damage during an earthquake in 1931 and another in 1983, earning its reputation as a unique architectural marvel.
The Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish Church, a designated National Cultural Treasure, stands as a testament to the town's enduring faith and resilient spirit. Through centuries of history, Bacarra has maintained its cultural identity, celebrating its rich past while looking toward a progressive future under the leadership of the Local Government Unit.
